Watch: Coast Guard Trains off Barnegat Inlet During Nor’Easter

While most boats were safely tied up at the dock or already hauled for the season by this week’s nor’easter, the crew at U.S. Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light got underway for some foul weather training.

In a video released Friday by the station, Coast Guardsmen are seen using one of the station 47-foot Motor Life Boats to tow another in treacherous seas. The 47-footer can take a knockdown by a wave, which is the scenario the crew trained for.

“We train to react to what could happen,” a social media post from the station said.

During this particular drill, there were no injuries to the crew or damage to the boat, a testament to the skill of those involved in the operation.

They reacted and worked as a team during and after to ensure there was a positive outcome,” the post said. “We train in these challenging conditions to ensure we are at the ready to respond to our platforms and qualified crews capabilities to assist the mariners in our area of responsibility.”
