Brick residents are being encouraged to photograph and submit via email pictures of the “most unusual” tree in town – a fun way to mark Arbor Day and celebrate all of Brick Township’s trees.

The winner will receive a certificate from the township and a $25 gift certificate from the Shade Tree Commission. The deadline for submitting a photo for consideration is Friday, April 10.

“We all know what a beautiful and unique place Brick Township is and this contest will allow everyone to enjoy some of the natural beauty that makes up our town,” said Mayor John G. Ducey, in a statement. “I applaud the Shade Tree Commission for their creativity and effort in highlighting the importance of Arbor Day, not only this year, but each and every year.”

Residents who would like to participate can photograph, or send in a previously-taken photo of a tree or trees located within the borders of Brick Township. They should submit the photo along with the approximate location of the tree and their contact information via email to shadetree@bricktownship.net. The photos will be posted to the township Facebook page, where the public will be able to vote for their favorites by “liking” the photos.

We still have trees here? I just thought we had parkway exits…

I don’t have any unusual looking trees on my property, but my neighbor Barbara has a nice bush.

I wish the $%^& Shade Tree Commission hadn’t blocked me from cutting down a certain tree that fell during Sandy and crushed my car and clipped the corner of the house. If there’s one service the government doesn’t need to provide, it’s this!
