Update: Comcast Service Restored After Software Glitch Causes Outage

Update, 3:23 p.m.: Comcast service has been restored.


Comcast television, Internet and phone service was still out for most customers across Ocean County and within the cable company’s other systems in central New Jersey, the company said Tuesday afternoon.


“We are currently addressing a software issue impacting the network feeds to some of our central and northern Jersey Shore systems,” said Jeff Alexander, a company spokesman.

The company had initially said service was expected to be restored by 12 noon. The company had not announced a timeline for the services to be turned back on by 12:30 p.m.

“Our engineers proactively detected the problem and have been working aggressively to resolve it since that time,” said Alexander. “We appreciate our customers’ patience as we remedy the interruption and apologize for any inconvenience.”

    Proactively detected the problem? If they were proactive, the outage would not have occurred. Call a spade a spade and admit that you reactively addressed the issue and it took way to long to fix.

    Proactively detected the problem? If they had actually done that, the problem would have been solved before it caused an outage. Morons!

    The tech on the phone swore to me it was cut fibre optic cable that caused the problem. I told her I could splice a new fibre in about an hour. Really getting tired of being lied to. If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit!

    Why not just be honest and admit to the rampant incompetence that pervades Comcast. They hire “script readers” and if the problem is beyond what’s on the cards in front of them, it all goes to hell. If they weren’t the only cable game in town, they’d probably be bankrupt.
