A large-scale improvement project at Lake Riviera Park worth nearly $1 million was approved by the Brick Township Council Tuesday night.

The council unanimously approved a contract that provides for the renovations to the park, worth $977,021, to Jamali Construction.

“The residents of Lake Riviera have been waiting a very, very long time for this park,” said Councilwoman Andrea Zapcic. “The better part of 10 years.”

The renovation will include two playgrounds along with a new walking trail and fishing pier. A rock wall will separate the beach area from a grassy play area, Zapcic has said. A new gazebo will be built in the middle of the park. The improvements include the construction of a retaining wall for the beach and dock area.

A new parking area that will be built will solve an issue at the park that has lingered for years, Zapcic said.

The rebuild is $200,000 under budget, according to township officials.

Is this the same park you can pass by any day, any time of the day and see maybe 2 people there? Isn’t there a better place to spend that $million?

My daughters met with the Mayor with their Girl Scout troop several months ago and he told them this was one of the 3 parks per year that they were planning to revitalize. I think it’s awesome and LONG overdue. They are addressing town parks, 3 per year based on need. I forget what the other 2 were. I only remembered this one as it’s in my neighborhood.

This could be due to the fact of not restroom facilities for the little kids.

What happened to paving Georgia Drive;waiting 2 years? Promised to be done this year.

I suppose you didn’t get the letter I got. The town is going to complete the paving project effective immediatly. I saw them on Virginia drive just this morning starting the project which is to take the next 2 months to complete.

Earle Asphalt started work on Monday, beginning at the south end of Georgia Dr. They’ve been working north, removing all the sunken water, sewer, and gas company patch jobs, backfilling the sinkholes properly. Today I noticed them replacing storm drains on Essex Dr, north and south of Georgia. I only hope they’re going to fix the road grade between Essex and Virginia, or extend the storm drains, as the road tends to flood there, because the grade of the road is higher at either end if the block.

Tear down homes, remove kids from our school burden and fight landlords who pick up distressed properties.

they fixed it up once before and neglected it. Is this time going to be different? I hope so. How about a walkway that goes around like the one in Midstreams. that park turned out very nice.

The last time this park was redone was when I was child and I’m 33 years old. So it’s safe to say it is overdue. My daughters met with the Mayor with their Girl Scout troop several months ago and he told them this was one of the 3 parks per year that they were planning to revitalize. I think it’s awesome and LONG overdue. My issue with it this, $977,000 DOLLARS? Really? Are they building a 6500 square foot mansion there or a children’s playground? SMH…more government waste.

By the way, town contracting engineers (or whoever the hell you are). That is NOT Texas Drive on the left, it’s Lake Shore drive. Texas is pretty FAR from there. I bet all 1 million dollars of this project are going to the right people. ::eyes roll::

By chance will there be any restroom facilities at the new park. It would be nice to not have to leave when a child has to go to the restroom.
