Route 9 Reopens After Mother, Two Children Struck While Crossing

A 27-year-old Lakewood woman and her two children were injured after they were struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Route 9 in Lakewood, authorities said.

The 10 p.m. accident closed the road overnight between Monday and Tuesday for four hours. It occurred in the area of Route 9 and Edgewood Court, police said.



The children were ages 1 and 4, according to police, and both suffered serious head injuries, while the mother suffered a facial laceration after being hit by a 1998 Lincoln Town Car that was heading north on the highway. All three were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment and further evaluation. The mother is listed in stable condition, while her children remain critical, according to police.
