The Brick Township public school district announced Tuesday morning that Jeannette Wehner, a 5th grade in-class support and STEM teacher at Emma Havens Young Elementary School, is the district’s 2016 Teacher of the Year.

“Ms. Wehner represents the dedicated and talented teachers of the district,” the announcement said. “Her action inspires others as she goes above and beyond for her students and colleagues alike. She is truly an asset to our school community.”

Wehner is “always engaging in new technology and techniques to use in the classroom,” as she promotes a STEM curriculum where students learn by doing, said EHYES principal Patricia Lorusso.

Wehner’s actions “inspire others to dream more, learn more and do more!” the announcement said.

In addition to staying current with best practices for teaching, she is also a contributor and presenter to the district’s Professional Development Academy.

The district’s teacher of the year is chosen from a pool of nominees with academic contribution and student performance as important factors in the committee’s selection.  The nominees for each individual school represent the “endless commitment to the students of Brick Township,” the announcement said.

Brick is the place !! Teachers from all over NJ want to work here ! Guaranteed Salary increases every year …!! Benefits for life… !! don’t worry the Board of Education will keep raising taxes to fund it !!

Brick teachers are one of the lowest paid in Ocean or Monmouth counties. This district’s turnover rate is typically high- our best and brightest get poached by neighboring districts. Keep whining about non-existent high taxes though. Ours are low compared to other towns and statewide averages.

You realize Brick Twp schools aren’t on that list, right? Nobody jumps to Brick to end on a high note anyway, that’s not how the state teacher’s union’s pensions work in this state you moron.

JW – go to data universe and look up the teachers in Brick,, their salaries are there Mr,. Moron plus another $30K in benefit package, Newark is still the lowest paid Teacher program unless your in a Yeshiva .. the township is still paying for 3 superintendents – one sitting at home for a court date, one recently let go and another one up on stage – add them all up along with health care – your looking at over $1. Million dollars spent. for what.? Take a look at the retirement plans that on payroll by the Brick Tax Payor, when these three actually leave – Brick school system – who do you think is paying for it.? the TAX PAYOR.. .. As more teachers LEAVE to retire – the more people will be paying for – it’s a multiplier. .. Look at how many teachers have transferred into Brick school system, to retire from…
don’t worry, everyone has their own financial breaking point, it happened to everyone.
[ a senior living on Social Security earning $1,600 a year can not live here in Brick if their taxes are $12,000 a year. – who owns a house. If they live in a retirement community – they can cut their cost by changing their lifestyle- giving up their home to move into an adult community to cut their taxes and change their lifestyle. – think they’re ok with that? ] ……..
The Taxes will increase and perhaps double with time,, please a 2.5% increase yearly – sure will happen quicker than anyone could have imagined.., utilities, municipal taxes will go up , and sooner or later – you will look at your personal finances and say to yourself,, gee,,,,,, I just can’t live here anymore… guess I will have to move.. one day you’ll look back on this moment and have that “Ah–ha” moment ,,…..,,, then it will hit you……”
But don’t worry old fella – I will chase you around the retirement home if I have to with a bowl of fruit loops and banana pudding…..”

The deranged ramblings of a fool who can’t process simple spreadsheet data, lacks basic mathematical skills and pulls stuff out if thin air. Everything you said is completely wrong to the point that I won’t even bother correcting it.

    Big salaries ..low return..

Retirement plans and Pensions for Life ! come to Brick and retire well, the Board of Education will find every reason to give teachers raises while causing financial hardships to others who live here….. Look at all the homes suddenly up for sale in Brick ! they believe by Raising taxes it’s going to better the students…. ! if the parents can’t afford to live here, when they move out – who or what do you think is going to move in..? Someone from Bergan County is not going to buy a 3 bedroom ranch in Lake Rivera and pay $12,000++ a year in taxes – for what? they will buy that home and turn it into LOW INCOME Rental as a business expense …! Maple Leaf or Saw Mill would look like a sanctuary in comparison…. How can anyone be so blind to drive down a road and say,, wow there’s a lot of homes for sale in Brick……?
There was a time we would say – WoW -what a great job your doing – Thank you – you mean so much to us and our family, our children value you !!!!!.
now- we look and think,,,,,, Wow that person makes $60,000.00 a year plus a 3% raise every year for working 9 months out of the year, pension and health care plans for life……
The solution is to find a balance in the system,,, no one talks to anyone?, the Board of Ed doesn’t talk to the Town or Planning board..?? we need a / or several strong Businesses in town, to help offset the increases or to lower taxes, then no one would care or complain or care too..”
in return, you would have fixed the problem.? That’s what people want – is,,, FIX the problem, so we don’t have to move out ? then we wouldn’t care as much..
The Town is making money, The schools are getting what they need,,, the Teachers and Town employees get 3% raises every year, funding for the pension and retirement is strong.. and the people have a stabilized tax program that is actually affordable….
Which makes Brick a desirable place to – want to move into,, once the value shows how desirable it is, the property values will go up – because the demand to move in- is there.!
Mayor and BOE – FIX the Problem ! so hundreds of people don’t have to sell and move out! want to win a election – show us – fix the problem !!!
