Brick police are advising residents of the Herbertsville section that the smell of smoke may be present today as a controlled burn is being conducted.

The burn is underway along Ridge Road, which backs up to the Manasquan Wildlife Refuge. Ridge Road is also the site of the township’s recycling center.

The burn is being conducted by the state Forest Fire Service, according to police.

Huh? Is a 10-acre contained fire the same as a controlled burn? Herbertsville seems to be the site of both at the moment depending on the article of the moment reporting these burns, forest fires, and house fires in Point and Beachwood. Will our Governor be helicoptering in for these events?
