Point Pleasant Borough officials say a man escaped from his vehicle after driving it into the Point Pleasant Canal early Sunday morning.
The man, who has not been identified by police, apparently was able to leave the vehicle out through the sunroof after crashing through a guardrail and ending up in the waterway, which is notorious for its strong currents.
Video posted online shows Point Pleasant Fire Department dive units being called to the scene. The man, according to the scanner chatter in the video, told first responders that he was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
It is not yet known if police issued any summonses stemming from the incident.
