Brick officials on Tuesday night introduced an ordinance that would restrict parking on three streets during daytime business hours after residents complained that cars are inundating their neighborhood, blocking mailboxes and driveways on a daily basis. An attorney for the business generating the traffic said anti-Jewish discrimination was behind the attempt to impose the restrictions.

The ordinance, unanimously approved for introduction, would ban parking between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Duquesne Boulevard, and portions of North Lake Shore Drive and Lafayette Drive. Residents of the Lake Riviera neighborhood who attended the meeting spoke of nonstop parking, blocked driveways, mail missed for days on end because boxes were blocked and garbage collection unavailable because of vehicles parked in front of cans.

The controversy surrounds Tryko Partners, which is located at 575 Route 70, at the intersection of the highway and Duquesne Boulevard. The company is involved in three business – multifamily housing development, skilled nursing facilities and the purchasing of tax liens. The third sector – tax liens – has apparently produced the heavy parking since the company holds frequent auctions. The company’s CEO is Yitzchok Rokowsky, a member of Lakewood’s Orthodox Jewish community.

Isaac Sassoon, an attorney representing Tryko, harshly criticized the proposed parking restrictions, saying they would “handcuff the growth of our business.”

Sassoon also claimed there were “racial overtones” to the restriction, saying he saw a discussion on Facebook about the parking issue where “derogatory comments about Jews” were posted.

“Our employees were assaulted with ‘Heil Hitler’ remarks,” he added, also saying that the company had pressed charges against the son of a neighboring resident who allegedly vandalized the building’s landscaping.

Neighbors, however, told a different story.

“From day one, since they opened their doors, we have had, on average, a minimum of 19 cars parked on shoulders both sides of Duquesne Boulevard,” said Jim Stoever, a 30-year resident of Duquesne. “They park directly up to the front of my driveway, making it increasingly difficult to get out onto a busy street. If they can’t reach the mailbox, we get no mail. We have residents who go for days without mail because their mailboxes are blocked.”

Stoever said he has now resorted to placing an orange traffic cone in front of his garbage can on garbage day so trash can be collected.

“This is not something that happens one or two days a week, or a few times a month – this is every day,” he said.

Scott Logan, another resident of the neighborhood, said he and other residents have politely asked those parking to leave more room for driveways and avoid blocking mailboxes to no avail. In one instance, he said, one of the patrons of the business called police on a resident because they were blocking a space with a traffic cone.

“I’ve had my garbage cans moved out of the way,” Logan said.

Residents of the neighborhood lined up to support the parking restrictions. Two residents opposed the restrictions, however they were both employees of Tryko.

Tryko’s property also includes a chiropractic office and a Wells Fargo bank. Richie Campbell, a neighboring resident, said he saw five cars parked in the bank’s fire lane Tuesday.

“Every single day, it’s like that,” said Campbell. “When a company needs to expand, they need to expand to a larger facility.”

Township officials said due to the number of complaints from neighboring residents, they were compelled to take action.

“Residents are complaining about the traffic, the parking, blocking driveways and mailboxes, parking too close to corners, so we obviously have to do something about it,” Mayor John Ducey said.

“Unfortunately, there is no further growth possibility on the lot,” Sassoon told officials at the meeting. “To me, this is absolutely unconscionable that this will be achieved, and this would really handcuff the growth of a business that has really been trying to grow for the last couple of years.”

Sassoon, in his comments, did not directly threaten litigation. Kevin Starkey, the township’s attorney, defended the proposed regulations and the intent behind doing so.

“There is an implication here that there are some kind of … racial or religious undertones attributed to the council,” Starkey said. “This council … doesn’t control Facebook or comments made by the public on Facebook, and absolutely, unequivocally, has no discriminatory intent against any religion or race. Anything to the contrary, frankly, I think is outrageous to stand there and contend.”

The ordinance will be up for a public hearing and second vote Sept. 27. If approved at that meeting, the ordinance will be formally enacted.

Many buildings in Brick have inadequate parking.
That’s what happens when a crooked Mayor has his boards approve variances for less parking in exchange for payola.
This ridiculous on street parking in residential neighborhoods is happening all over town.

  • Joseph Woolston Brick

Easy solution, let the air out of the parked cars tires, after a few times, problem solved. Oh I love the racial thing, religion is not a race, it’s a religion. It’s funny how people will pull out the race card when it doesn’t even apply. Park in front of my mailbox, and you will have four flat tires.

    • Shitlord

Jews are a race. There are secular or even atheist Jews.

    • KaayC

Old school Joey Wools, very old school.

  • Trump for President

    Give out parking tickets.
If the road is lined, you are not allowed to park in travel lane, between yellow center line and white shoulder line.
If there is no shoulder you cannot park on someones lawn.
    Enforce the law.
No one is allowed to block or impede traffic.

    • Shitlord

When did you get your license? Passing on the right, on a single lane behind a car making a left turn IS legal even if it involves the shoulder.

      • Trump for President

        Hey Shitstain,

New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission Points- Improper Passing in NJ
Improper Passing on Right or Off Roadway- N.J.S.A. 39:4-85 is a violation listed in the N.J.S.A. Point Schedule and the Motor Vehicle Commission will add 4 points to your New Jersey Driving record if convicted.

  • Mike Brown

I like Joseph’s idea but that doesn’t solve the problem of getting the car away from the mailbox. a spiteful car owner might just leave the damn car there and go buy another $400 POS car instead.

the fact of the matter is that the streets affected are zoned for residential purposes, not commercial. residents in a residential zone should not have to compete with a business. there are plenty of residential areas where this isn’t a problem. unfortunately for Tryko, this is not one of those areas. sorry, too bad, so sad, find an office building with adequate parking for your clients, and stop crying “anti-Semite” just because people are calling you out on your BS.

  • Trump for President

If someone is parked with a tire on your lawn or property , call the police and demand the car be towed. Same with blocked mailbox or driveway. This is not Lakewood or Brooklyn.
    Enforce The law.

  • Brian Mirsky

This seems like such an easy problem to fix. Not sure why we always have to go to ‘extremes’ – why not, as a starting point, simply paint the curbs. It sounds like the largest complaint is that people are being inconsiderate and blocking driveways and mailboxes. That is easy to fix and then if it’s posted / marked, you can tow violators (an income source anyway)… but it will make the streets safer and should ease most of the concerns from the complaining parties.

    • MegNix

In that area, curbs do not exist. Not as simple as you may think.

      • Brian Mirsky

Seriously? So a painted line ON the roadway, or painted boxes around driveways and mailboxes. This is not rocket science. If the complaint is blocked driveways and mailboxes and inconsiderate / obstruction parking… it’s a simple fix. If the problem is people not wanting Orthodox Jews on their street, they need to grow up. But if the issue is one of obstructing personal property or traffic flow, it’s easy to solve. Just start towing people who violate. Not everything has to be a problem.

      • Marcos Dashiell

What are you talking about. The houses that are the most impacted around that building have curbs. Go check again. And when you go further down the street, paint the actual street just like the white stripes that are there. That’s my whole point. This is a problem for 7 or 8 home owners that is being blown out of proportion to effect everyone in the neighborhood.

    • Marcos Dashiell

Good idea, thats what i’m saying. Or issue permits. Or limit the hours.

  • Jersey Devil ™

Paint the curbs. I believe there is a law for obstruction of a mail box.
Seems every time it snow’s, the section in front of the mailbox has to be cleared.

  • Surfrider

there are no curbs in front of the residential homes I don not believe. The companies that operate there realized that in the beginning, and said no worries just park in front of the residents. That is residential there, and the increased parking creates a more unsafe ride through there, where it is a main road to get to rt#70. They always have to cry discriminatory, but the simple fact is its too many cars, whether people getting out of the cars are yellow, white, black, brown, purple, or whatever, its not right for the home owners there…case closed.

  • Theta

Imposing a zoning parking sticker for residential areas would cut unwanted/unsafe parking in specific areas during specific hours. Limit households to 2-3 stickers to which those cars could be parked on the street without being ticketed and provide visitor passes. This would allow uninterrupted mail to be delivered, continued garbage pickup and professional services such as landscaping, emergency vehicles would be able to move freely and our children would be safe as they are picked up and dropped of by the buses. Also ticket a vehicle that prohibits mail from being delivered or garbage from being picked up.

  • Beach N8iv

Try to remember that, if this law is enacted, FIRST, you have to get the cops to write parking tickets. Most cops consider this beneath them. SECOND, the people getting the tickets don’t have a strong history of paying them and with 400,000 lawyers in their family why would they?

    • Jersey Devil ™

That is a lot of lawyers.

      • Beach N8iv

        Big families.

    • Shitlord

So the punishment is having your car towed. You will pay the fines if you want your car back. Or else uncle shlomo might not lease you another one.

  • Jersey Devil ™

Just get a post office box, and call it a day.

    • Suzzette

That ignores the problem, solving it with a band-aid. A residential neighborhood should not have to endure overflow parking from a business. There is an underused parking lot nearby that includes offices owned by the same business owner in question. Why not have the employees use it and simply walk the short distance to their offices? The onus is on the offending business to solve the problem, not the residents. Your solution skirts the issue and causes the neighborhood to incur expenses that are unnecessary. Sorry, I can’t agree with you.

      • Jersey Devil ™

        So what do you suggest?

      • RealityCheck

I suggest the business transition to a new and larger facility with adequate parking. Commercial zoning laws exist for this exact reason. If they have expanded to the extent they in which they are unable to properly utilize the commercial land owned by the business then its time to move. Unlike Lakewood, zoning laws should be obeyed.

      • Jersey Devil ™

Do they offer open zoning board meetings so the public can attend and voice your suggestions?

      • RealityCheck

yes, if you read the article it states that is how this was handled. As with most public ordinances, it will require at least 3 meetings. A large number of residents voiced their concerns over the parking. This is hardly the first area which has done the same. To call this antisemitic is foolish. It seems to be a phrase thrown around every time somebody doesn’t get what they want.

      • Dan

police were called months ago regarding blocked mailboxes and driveways. there were 2 or 3 incidents months ago. Since that time, no cars have been blocking mailboxes and driveways. these people are just upset jews are parking in front of their house on a public road in front of their pickup truck w/ no wheels just chilling on their ugly lawn..classy!! these neighbors post racist, anti-Semitic comments on facebook while discussing the issue. to insist there is no antisemitism at play here, is foolish..

      • Jersey Devil ™

Welp,, I wish all you folks luck. I did read it by the way, so don’t be so snippy.
Have a nice day. I gotta go start on my rum-runners. Its a terrific beach day in Ocean City !

      • Marcos Dashiell

Maybe the business has been looking for somewhere to move. I can’t imagine its easy to relocate that many people. maybe we’ll be stuck with them for 10 years. Let’s think of something better than screwing ourselves. I can’t tell you how upset I am about this. Why do i have to suffer becuase some business is down the street. I hope our politicians can come up with something better. What is the best way to reach them?

      • KaayC

Call the township administration. They are reasonable people and someone will hear you out. If they are not available, Marcos they will call you back. Mayor Ducey is IMHO a most reasonable man. He is also quite busy so do not feel slighted if you deal with an assistant. I don’t know these people personally, only from calling about township concerns. : )

      • Trump for President

Make your front yard a driveway the length of your property. Then call the town to tow them when someone blocks it.

      • Mac

in person, especially as a group

      • Marcos Dashiell

That parking lot is full too. Have you gone over there. I cant afford tickets and am hoping some cool headed people think of a better idea then removing parking for everyone. Moronic.

  • Frank Rizzo

Time for the white middle class to become its own special interest group and quit being scared to speek…your all considered racists anyway..no matter what your actions are

  • Emma

Enough of this nonsense. If the neighborhood is complaining about traffic, parking, blocking driveways and mailboxes, and parking too close to corners, the township has an obligation to remedy the problems. The fact that the businesses didn’t adequately plan for the amount of parking they needed has nothing to do with their religion. The people that own homes nearby should not have to live with this kind of aggravation daily.

    • KaayC

Yes, valid. It was their lawyer who inappropriately brought race into it as many so called minorities do when they are wrong, they play the race card. I believe many of the so called majority are tired of the so called minorities’ high maintenance ways.

      • J W

No, it was clearly the racist neighbors on facebook. It’s called a timeline moron.

  • Goodgrief

If a specific group continually has a negative effect on areas it functions in it creates negative views of that group. Any group that does this is the problem, not it’s victims.

  • lkelly

And there it is….the race card. They had to pull something out because as it stands, the community has rights. Rights to not have a business monopolize a RESIDENTIAL AREA. Zoning laws are made for this purpose. These businesses have no concern for personal
space here, and should be sited DAILY until it is resolved. Business is booming? Move to a bigger building with proper parking!!! Don’t jam up an already tough corner to navigate with your illegally parked patrons because you don’t want to spend some of that cash you’re making!!! Do not lie down on this one Mayor!!!!

    • Marcos Dashiell

If we’re being honest we know these cars are not parked illegally. This ordinance will make it illegal. The building was built acording to zoning laws which some payola probably greased over 15 years ago. The ordinance will also mean we can’t park on our street either. There are other businesses in that building too. Did we think about driving them out. How will their customers get to park now. Again, what the hell are we supposed to do now when our guests come to visit. My wife, son and I all have cars. Whenever someone comes to our house, they park on the street so we can get out if we need to. What the heck are we supposed to now, am i supposed to tell my guests to park in target and then walk to me. Come on!

  • Flash

Racism exists for sure. Against blacks ,Jews. Italians. Irish you name it,but does it have to be the first card played every time? There’s a parking problem. That’s obvious.

    • J W

The comments on Facebook were when the race card got pulled. Blame the racist white neighbors for pulling it

      • Mac

After having read many of your posts in the past, I’m noticing you are becoming more and more absorbed in striking out with your unchecked emotions rather than your routine banner of blasting everyone else that you feel are holding you back from advancing yourself. I attribute this to the profound confusion your presentations have led me to conclude As this national election winds down in the next 60 days, how are you going to deal with supporting or rejecting Donald Trump, a white Al Sharpton?

      • J W

White supremacy and white entitlement are unchecked emotions. You need to see a shrink about this, because clearly you aren’t qualified to diagnose yourself.

As for the Trumpanzee, he’s going to lose. By a landslide according to nearly every poll no less. Definitely not having a problem there. And how dare you compare a racist buffoon with a great civil rights leader. Might as well compare Simon Weisenthal with Hitler.

      • Mac

Too bad that public service announcement showcasing a brain on drugs didn’t air in time to save you, but it is what it is. And much like any other commentator that has repeatedly demonstrated that they can’t make a post without a nasty name attached to it as they spew their hate, POOF, your brain ashes have vanished into the wind and the circle of life continues without you.

  • Dan

These neighbors are posting anti-Semitic comments on facebook and have the audacity to do so under their names..no shame…many of the same people who showed up last night. they have harassed Tryko employees by yelling anti-Semitic comments to them on their way to work. If they have a problem w/ employees parking on a public road (they don’t own the road and they chose to live across from an office bldg), do so in a civil and respectful way. I believe both parties involved, the business and the neighbors, have legit arguments. by acting like racist morons though, it doesn’t help the nieghbors case.

    • Carol Hawley Baker

Wow… *chose* to live across from an office building? Did you really just say that? I don’t know how long that building has been there, but I don’t think it’s been as long as some of those people have lived there. If I’m right about the building, and I haven’t lived there in almost 10 years, so I may not be thinking about the right one, but isn’t that a fairly new building? Like within the last 10 years?

    • KaayC

Au contraire it is Hassidem that are ethnocentric bringing their race into every argument legal or otherwise whilst practicing behaviours that do not adhere to tenets of basic civility. We witness this in stores where they most often shop in throngs of eight or ten oblivious to anyone else around them, overly aggressively driving their banged up Cars4kids vehicles, overtaking our parks and reservoir by sheer volume of influx from Tel Aviv and Brooklyn. They have not been very nice neighbors. By manipulating the school boards and the tenant boards they attempt to impose their ways rather than assimilate to the prevailing culture. Witness the recent debacle regarding swimming pool access in a retirement community. The poor fitting room attendant in Marshalls was harassed by a small group of these people for not allowing a Hassidic man into the ladies fitting room! He wanted to be with his wife. Today I had the contents of my shopping cart removed and cart taken because a Hassidic woman could not be bothered to walk to the front of the store. When anyone challenges their self absorbed ways they pull the race card. We are not Anti-Semite we are anti-obnoxious! Hassidem do not want to coexist they want to take over. ENFORCE THE PARKING BAN.

  • Dan

Also, those who attended will know the attorney briefly mentioned the racist comments on facebook and slurs yelled at employees by neighbors. he also rightfully mentioned the fact that the co had a son of the next door neighbor arrested for vandalism. the majority of his comments did not involve discrimination claims and were focused on the growth of the business. these articles spin it to seem he concentrated on discrimination, which was in fact just a small part of his argument and not at all a focus. but hey, people want exciting headlines!!

    • Marcos Dashiell

Did ANYONE think this through or even READ this ordinance? Now we can’t
park on the street either. Not my landscaper, family or guests. No one.
This is ridiculous. We’re cutting off our nose to spite our face. I’m
more than upset our politicians decided the best way to solve this
problem was to eliminate parking for residents. How stupid is this. The
first ticket my family gets I’m going to the mayor to pay it. Couldn’t
they come up with something better?

Not only do our tax dollars go to pay for a lawsuit these guys are going to bring becuase we’ve left them with no options (we know these guys will sue, they brought an attorney to the meeting, and we will foot the bill of a lawsuit now) but now we’re not
allowed to park on our OWN streets. How about we stripe the curbs and
stop the parking in front of PARTS of each house. Or at least issue me permits for
my friends and famuly. How are the cops going to know not to issue me
      and my friends tickets.

I don;t know how this became about discrmination either. That attorney mentioned lots of other issues and the only thing that gets mentioned is the discrimination and not even that is reported properly. If some moron yelled burn the wasps and tore up my landscaping I would be pissed too.

Bottom line, let’s think of a better way to solve this then elimating parking altogheter. That is a stupid STUPID idea. Just stripe the curbs. I’m hoping the mayor and the politicians do the smart move. I’m telling you if I get a ticket I will be PISSED.

      • KaayC

You are right. Zoning ordinance seems a more workable idea.

      • Shitlord

If you actually lived there you would know there are no curbs.

  • Shitlord

“We can’t block people’s driveways, mailboxes and trash cans? Oy Vey! IT’S ANOTHER SHOAH!!”

  • Mac

When a ‘religious group’ promotes personal values that turn neighborhood after neighborhood into personalized sleazy welfare slums when they move in, or try to move in, the neighborhood has a right to keep the known and practiced cancer out of their neighborhoods when so threatened. It would seem to me that 70 so years after WWII, this ‘religious group’ would have made an effort at embracing the values of America instead of actively working heartily to bleed them dry, thus making many Americans proud of their own values wonder aloud that perhaps America was too successful in the outcome of WWll.

  • Smokin

Town should focus more with thugs and drugs and section 8s …

    • Mac

They are. In this case, they are focusing on at least 2 out of the 3 choices you stated.

    • J W

I do believe you can do two things at once. That’s an important thing to note because this country’s been fighting a war on drugs for 35 years to no avail. Were we to focus on one thing like drugs exclusively, there would be nothing ever accomplished, let along the drug crime problem.

  • Carol Hawley Baker

Figures they’d claim discrimination against the Jews. That’s what these minority groups do, they claim discrimination over every little thing. It is very clear that there is a problem if people are regularly not getting their mail, their garbage isd not collected, and their own driveways are blocked. Tryko holds auctions regularly? Find a different, more suitable location for such things. Obviously that property itself is impeding the company’s growth, as a company cannot expand into a neighborhood and infringe upon the resident’s rights to their own properties, mail, and garbage collection. There may be racial or ethnic slurs toward these people because of their blatant disregard for decency and courtesy, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the need for this ordinance.

  • J W

Good old Bricktucky. Small problems that could be dealt with civilly have to get an injection of racism in there somewhere. What does being Jewish have to do with their customers at the auction? Nothing, although it is a good opportunity for our local racists to express their racism and then have other white racists show up to defend them for being racist. Then everyone gets made about race being brought into the matter. The race card starts with the white people. It always does. Your racism IS the issue. Stop being bigoted Archie Bunkers. Condemn all racism everywhere. Problem solved. And yeah, keep people from parking there during business hours. It’s a residential street, not an ad hoc parking lot.

    • Mac

backing up Dan’s self-applied up-votes along with self-applied up-votes for yourself seriously strains your integrity – as for the racism that only white people have, according to you, this has far more to do with the actions of rude, crude, and purposely socially unacceptable people that have no regard for anything or anyone that is not 110% behind their beliefs and desires – fighting that is not racism – it’s class

      • J W

Changing the subject to dodge responsibility for your prejudiced beliefs. You white racists really are a plague, completely high on your own supply. You people are just looking for an excuse to display tour irrational hatred and ignorance of everyone who isn’t white and Christian like you. When the Jews aren’t in arms reach of your nooses and gas chambers, it’s the black man, then the Mexicans and then the Muslims. When will you get this mental disease in check?

      • Mac

when you develop the ability to reply like a man, I’ll continue a discussion with you – you’re nothing more than a race baiter here

      • J W

You’re nothing more than a racist. You’ve said it yourself. You don’t want to discuss anything. Good riddance.

      • Trump for President

You are very, very sick in the head. I am actually starting to feel sorry for you because of your mental illness that you suffer from. Hopefully you have relatives ir feiends that are trying to get you help with your disease.
In the mean time, I will block your posts from my view.
Hope you get the help that you desperately need.

      • J W

Hopefully your friends and relatives won’t stop you from ending it all after Trumpanzee gets his butt beat by a great woman. She’ll be our President for 8 years unless we amend the constitution to make it even longer.

      • KaayC

Idk, you could be right, but last I heard the race was neck n neck. I have no pony in this race can’t stand either of them, but talk about white privilege, your girl Hillary – now there’s some white privilege.

      • J W

Neck and neck? Lol The biggest joke out there is ‘President Donald Trump’. Few polls put him above 40%- it’s going to be a landslide and he’ll take the the whole GOP with him into the mud

      • KaayC

Like I say, can’t stand either of them, but you might underestimate the malcontentia of the forgotten middle class. Noone on Wall Street went to jail and if a private citizen pulled Hillary’s deletion of emails they would be locked up. They locked up Martha Stewart for less. She is as crooked as they come so be careful what you wish for. Whitewater, Benghazi, emails – where there’s smoke there is fire.

      • Mac

illusions, illusions, illusions – now you see it, now you don’t – there comes a time in all of our worlds when growing up is best

      • J W

Exactly. Grow a brain. Klan days are over.

      • Mac

Apparently not as long as you are still breathing. David Duke will always be your first battle cry.

      • J W

You and him see eye to eye. That’s the problem.

      • KaayC

        “He”
You and “he” see eye to eye i.e.
        You see eye to eye
        He sees eye to eye
Clarity of expression can sometimes render clarity of thought and btw, JW I am not a moron!

      • Trump for President

Soon they might come after the homosexual trangenders like yourself.

    • KaayC

Oh and are the crap rap “artists” who call police pigs and women bitches and the blacks who call caucasians honkeys without sin? I take the article at face value it says the attorney claims rascism.

      • J W

Stop deflecting and changing the subject. THAT is race baiting. Take resposnibility for your racism and/or call other people out on theirs. These attitudes are not acceptable in a diverse modern society.

      • KaayC

        Answer the question

      • J W

Stop race baiting. White supremacy is an actual problem, not the imaginary transgressions fragile white people imagine.

      • KaayC

        Answer the question.

      • Trump for President

Who calls whites “honkeys”? Stop watching reruns of “The Jeffersons” and “Good Times” and “Sandford and Son”.
Whites are now just called “racists, rednecks, or crackers,”.
Get with the BLM times. you are keeping blacks down with your white privelege.
        You “Jive Turkey”.

      • KaayC

I love “Good Times” JJ and “Sanford …” LaMonte, you dummy! lol…
I am not privileged and never have been. In fact I grew up much like “Good Times” in a high-rise urban development that they tried to spin as being like in “The Jeffersons”. It wasn’t. When I was mugged by a group of hispanics who held me at knife point, trying to get me in a car, I fought, screamed and stood my ground. They got away with my gold neck chain and before I became another Kitty Genovese statistic, I moved to Hackensack, New Jersey. Been in the Garden State ever since. As for the BLM I think race relations were better back then. You “dummy”. I do not suffer fools or race cards readily,

Just another example of the Haredi’s complete disregard for the codes, laws, and living conditions of non-orthodox. The enforcement of traffic and fire laws and violations is long overdue.
