Birchwood Park, located in the neighborhood that bears the same name, will be the next township park to be rebuilt and upgraded with modern equipment.

The administration of Mayor John Ducey has made park improvements a priority over the last several years, and has already completed projects at numerous other parks in town. For Birchwood Park, the cost of the project was included in this year’s capital budget, and the township is currently seeking grants from the state Department of Environmental Protection to help defray the cost, said Business Administrator Joanne Bergin.

Ducey said the project will include the construction of two new playgrounds – one for children ages 2-5 and one for ages 6-12 – as well as two basketball courts, a multipurpose field, a gazebo and a walking track. The reconstruction also includes new safety surfaces, irrigation, lighting and security cameras.

The project has been estimated to cost approximately $1.2 million. A rendering of the project is shown in the image included in this article. The park is located off Ashwood Drive, behind Warren H. Wolf Elementary School.

Looking at the drawing it appears that there is a wall on the park border near the homes. Could it be a sound barrier?

    Was a sound study performed?

There was a sound study performed for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and Ocean County Government at Interchange 91. That study validated the need for a sound barrier at Evergreen Woods, but due to a loophole they avoided building one.

Will the town build a sound barrier at Bernie Cooke Park when the town rebuilds it next year or will they find a loophole?

You’re kidding right?! What a sound barrier to block the noise of children playing? There’s always been a park here if you don’t like the sound coming from a playground maybe you should move somewhere really secluded. You can hear similar noise from children just playing in a backyard. The noise from a playground vs. a parkway are two totally different topics and completely irrevelant. Why not just be great full that along with re-doing a park it increases the visibility from crappy to wonderful landscaping and grass.

Sound barrier your kidding at a park..the noise of kids playing really but no wall by parkway for condos..just insane..! The problem of noise with basketball playing and loud music till 10 pm. On summer days and hanging out problems that forced police patrol on bikes and in cars are new problems for Colorado park or Herbertsville park..nice to have the park but changed what was once a quiet safe neighborhood..And wait they will post security cameras will be installed at completion and money was budgeted for park but some how no cameras to date cause they are waiting for bids but wait you posted they would be there at completion council walked for elections they would be there ..and still not installed….where did that money go ???…So tired of continued lies by politicians All!

i was thinking that also, looks like they are going to flip the baseball field and what looks like a wall by the field is parking spaces. it would be nice to see the park brought back to life.

Why rebuild this park? There is nothing wrong with it. Spend tax money on something more important.

Maybe people want a nice new park? Maybe people think parks are important part of the town that they live in?

      • Hillary for Prison

People want nice paved roads without pot holes, that dont flood when it rains.
Prople want police to ticket crazy drivers.

So you speak for everyone now? Maybe along with those things people want a nice park to bring there kids too.

With the help of Ellssa Commins, the wall is probably a sidewalk.
