Brick officials are telling boaters who keep their vessels at Traders Cove Marina during the winter: get that boat in the water come spring!

The township council recently approved stiff fines for boat owners whose vessels are still in their winter storage positions after the winter storage season is over. According to Council President Paul Mummolo, an ordinance introduced last week will impose a flat fine of $500 plus an additional $100 for each day a boat is not removed from winter storage.

Winter storage leases run through May 15. The ordinance provides a grace period before fines kick in, however. Owners will face the fines if their boats are not removed from winter storage by the Friday before Memorial Day. In addition, boaters who have been fined will not be allowed to dock their boats in the water at the marina until the fines are paid.
