Lakewood police tracked down three men alleged to have robbed two township residents, ages 19 and 20, at gunpoint early Tuesday morning, one of whom was an escaped convict, police said.
The suspects, identified as Da’Sean Donaldson, 21, of Jackson, Fritzley Francois, 29, of Lakewood and Tyree Hughes, 38, of Irvington fled in a Mitsubishi Galant following the robbery, during which several items, including cell phones, were taken from the victims, according to a statement from police.
Several leads were developed which led investigators to the Garden State Motor Lodge Motel in Union Township, Union County.
After several hours and with the assistance of the Union Township Police Department, the trio were taken into custody without incident after leaving their hotel room.
Further investigation by detectives Nate Reyes and Charles Messer of the Lakewood police department, along with officers from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Unit, resulted in charges of armed robbery, receiving stolen property, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose for each suspect.
In addition, Hughes was found to have escaped from the New Jersey Department of Corrections Harbor Facility in Newark in October.
Bail was set for Hughes and Francois in the amount of $150,000 cash and $100,000 cash for Donaldson. All three were transported to the Ocean County Jail.
