Brick Township was declared “Football Town USA” Monday, and the day would not have been complete with the township’s own football legend, Warren Wolf.

Wolf took part in the festivities, which included a visit from New York Giants Star Victor Cruz, who came to Brick to meet students, players and coaches after the school won an online competition to score the pro visit.

โ€œWith this townโ€™s rich tradition in football, and this high school specifically, I think they were perfect winners for this award,โ€ said Cruz to WOBM’s sports reporters, who covered the event.”

Cruz also took a moment to meet with Wolf, the winningest football coach in New Jersey history who retired in 2008 after leading the BTHS Dragons for 51 seasons.

The recognition as “Football Town USA” goes toward helping school and community spirit, organizers said.

I was opposed to the school naming after Warren Wolf. There are veterans from Brick, that have given their life to defend our country and they should have been honored before Wolf. The fact that he’s the winningest coach is not something to be proud of. Football breeds a culture of machismo and an image of its players as being heroes, for bringing the ball up and down the court. Well, they are not. Besides, the toll that it takes on the body and the brain injuries that have resulted are a reason to do away with this useless sport. Brick being the “football capitol” does not do anything about the town’s image. Having clean schools, that actually teach our kids is what we should be striving for

East coast…. you aren’t fit to shine Warren Wolf’s shoes!
Wolf has done more for this town in 1 week than you have done in your lifetime!
Warren Wolf was and is not just a football coach.
They should name the High School after him!

Hillary, I don’t have a school named after me. So, I dont count. But, tell me what he did in a week, that he deserves to have a school named after him, more than a veteran that has given his life has done. Other than coach a football team that has inflicted heavy damage to many players

I never said he did anything better than a soldier who gave his life. I said he is better than You!
He was a teacher, a principal, an assistant superintendent.
He was a town councilman, the Mayor a county Freeholder and a State Assemblyman.
He was a football coach and a mentor to thousands of boys and young men.
He started the football and hockey programs in Brick and made them two of the best in the state.
That is just what I know of the man.
        He is a legend.
When the great Warren Wolf passes into the next life, there will be hundreds of mourners at his services and many hundreds more who will wish they could be there to pay respects to the man.
Maybe you will attend and offer to shine his shoes.

Hillary. I never compared the man to me. First of all, you dont know what I have done. You don’t know how I have served my country. How can you tell that he’s better than me? Second of all, You might want to shine my shoes. I don’t shine anyone’s shoes. All those “he was” is nice and dandy. He got paid for all that and has a great pension for it. Why would he be a mentor to anyone’s child? I’m a mentor to my kids. I don’t expect anyone else to do the job for me. Again, I said that there are people that are more worthy of such an honor, than Warren Wolf. Not that I’m one of those. You must a Trump supporter, judging from your name. You say things that have no basis in fact. Just like your idol
