A Christmas and holiday-season tradition, seasonal shows are coming to the Robert J. Novins planetarium at Ocean County College.
There will be three shows, all with a holiday or winter theme this year, according to an announcement from the college this week. They include:
Laser Holidays – Sat, Dec. 3, Dec. 10, Dec. 17 at 11:30 a.m.; Thurs, Dec. 8 at 2:00 p.m.; and Sat, Dec. 10, Dec. 17 at 8:00 p.m. This laser concert features classic holiday favorites like “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” modern hits like “Jingle Bell Rock,” and unique renditions of timeless songs. This is a fun experience for everyone and gives new meaning to the term “holiday lights” – LASER lights! (Family Show)
Let It Snow: A Holiday Music Journey – Sat, Dec. 3, Dec 10, Dec. 17 at 12:30 p.m.; Sat, Dec. 3 at 8:30 p.m.; Thurs, Dec. 8 at 1:00 p.m.; Sat, Dec. 10, Dec. 17 at 7:00 p.m.: This delightful animated show features a variety of festive classics such as “Let It Snow”; “Run Rudolph Run”; “Frosty the Snowman”; “Holly Jolly Christmas”; “Jingle Bell Rock”; and a stunning, multi-media finale by the Trans Siberian Orchestra! The soundtrack is visually enhanced with thematic animation, laser imagery, special effects, and all-dome scenery in the audiovisual setting of the Planetarium. (Family Show)
Season of Light – Sat, Dec 3, Dec 10, Dec 17 at 2:00 p.m.: Learn the reasons humans are so fascinated with lighting up our lives during the December holiday season. This show is an exploration of the astronomical meanings behind seasonal traditions, including the “Star over Bethlehem” and recounts the historical, religious, and cultural rituals practiced during the time of Winter Solstice including Celtic, Christian, Hopi, Irish, Jewish, Mexican, Nordic, and Roman. It’s an elegant and sophisticated program about the coldest and darkest of seasons – a time that holds some of the warmest and brightest celebrations of the year. (Family Show)
Admission per show is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (60+) and OCC Rewards Members with card, $7 for children (12 and under). A Family Pack is $35 (a $41 value) and includes two adults and three children. To see more than one show on a given day, multi-show discounts are available.
