The county freeholder primary race is uncontested, with Republican incumbents and Democrat challengers each filing.

This year, two seats on the all-Republican Freeholder Board are up for grabs, with longtime incumbents John Bartlett of Pine Beach and Gerry Little of Surf City each filing.

The Democrat candidates for freeholder are Teddy Price of Blue Sea Lane in Toms River and Vince Minichino of Coolidge Drive in Brick.

Price unsuccessfully ran for Toms River Council in 2015; this is his first run for the county seat. Minichino is also making his first run for the freeholder spot.

Voters will also decide the county surrogate this November. The June primary is also uncontested for this seat.

Republican incumbent Jeffrey Moran of Pine Beach is seeking another term. Democrat Kieran Pillon Jr., a lawyer from Island Heights, has filed to run. Pillon unsuccessfully ran for county clerk in 2015.

The filing deadline for each party’s primary passed April 2; the deadline for independent candidates is closer to the election.

The primary will take place June 5; the general election is set for Nov. 6.
