Kayla Tufaro, the missing 18-year-old Toms River girl who was the focus of a large police search and social media outreach this week, has been located in Virginia and says she is okay.
Corporal Alyssa Zullig of the Waynsboro, Va., police department, where Tufaro was found, said she spoke to the teen and confirmed she was in good health. According to Ralph Stocco, spokesman for the Toms River Police Department, which initiated the national search, said the Virginia department confirmed that she left her home of her own free choice and, in addition, stated her desire to no longer be listed as a missing person.
The Toms River department has now closed the case, Stocco said. There was no immediate reason provided as to why Tufaro left home Aug. 11, saying at the time that she wanted to “do her own thing.”
