Brick police and other local agencies are searching for a man who is wanted in a stabbing at the Gulf gas station at Burnt Tavern and Lanes Mill roads.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon at 12:34 p.m., Sgt. Henry Drew said.
The details of the incident are still sketchy as detectives are beginning their investigation, but police confirmed the stabbing and that a suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction from the gas station. There were unconfirmed reports that there may have been a robbery involved.
By 2:15 p.m., Drew said a New Jersey State Police helicopter had been called in to assist police in their search.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5-foot-10, 170 to 180 pounds, clean shaven with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a green shirt, blue shorts, a baseball cap and sunglasses.
The victim who was stabbed was taken by Brick Police EMS to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. He was going into surgery upon arrival but his injury did not appear to be life threatening, Drew said.
