Toms River police arrested two Manchester residents on theft and other charges are being called to the Boscov’s store in the Ocean County Mall on Tuesday.
According to police spokesman Ralph Stocco, it was determined when officers arrived that the incident involved two shoplifters who had assaulted loss prevention officers and attempted to flee the area. The incident apparently began when loss prevention officers observed Salvatore Marotte, 26, of Northampton Drive in Manchester and Rocquel Barretto, 27, of the same address, break open a jewelry display case when an employee was distracted.
They removed $410 worth of jewlery and attempted to leave the store with it, Stocco said. When Marotte was approached by the store employees, according to Stocco, he “became aggressive and used physical force against the workers.”

Marotte was charged with robbery, theft, and criminal mischief. He remains in the Ocean County Jail on $100,000 bail. Barretto was charged with shoplifting as well as possession of a hypodermic syringe that she had hidden in her bra. Her bail is set at $2,500 and she also remains incarcerated.
