MacArthur Bests Belgard in Race for Congressional Seat

Republican Tom MacArthur has beaten his Democratic opponent, Burlington County Freeholder Aimee Belgard, to represent New Jersey’s third district – including Brick Township – in the U.S. Congress.

Belgard, who led in her home county, could not overcome a groundswell of support for MacArthur in Ocean County, where he won by a 60-36 percent margin. In Ocean County, MacArthur received 45,310 votes compared to Belgard’s 27,152.



The Associated Press officially called the race at 9:47 p.m.

MacArthur was on hand at the Ocean County GOP victory celebration in Toms River, where he joined Joe Vicari, who also emerged a strong victor in the Ocean County freeholder race Tuesday night.
