The Brick Township Chamber of Commerce has named Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato its Distinguished Community Leader Award recipient for 2014, along with Joel Markel of Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services.
The awards are given each year to local citizens who make “outstanding community contributions” to the local area, the Chamber said in a statement.
Coronato has been recognized nationally since taking office in Ocean County for his aggressive efforts to combat the county’s heroin epidemic, including introducing the lifesaving practice of administering Narcan to overdose victims and charging drug dealers in the deaths of their customers. He has also organized a large-scale outreach campaign which has included numerous public forums and anti-drug programs in local schools.

All of the awards will be presented at the Chamber’s gala event Dec. 11 at the Eagle Ridge Country Club in Lakewood. The 2015 leadership team for the Chamber will also be installed that night.
