Interchange 88 on the southbound Garden State Parkway in Lakewood will be closed permanently as of 7 p.m. Monday, officials with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority announced.
The closure is part of ongoing improvements being made to the connections between the Parkway and local roads at interchanges 88 and 89 for Brick and Lakewood.
Southbound drivers who want to access Route 70 will now exit at interchange 89 and drive as directed over a newly constructed service road. Those drivers will pay a toll on exit at interchange 89, but will no longer pay a toll at interchange 88.
“The change will not affect the amount of the toll paid,” officials said in a statement.
Signs on the southbound Parkway will direct drivers to use interchange 89 to reach Route 70.
The work to close interchange 88 will begin Monday evening and will be finished before rush hour Tuesday morning. There will be detours in place directing motorists to Route 70 while the overnight work is being done.
