Delays on the Garden State Parkway’s northbound lanes in Brick had eased by 2 p.m. Saturday following a morning accident involving a crane working off the roadway.
State police said the crane toppled over at about 10 a.m., leading to its operator being ejected and suffering serious injuries. The identity of the crane operator was not released pending notification of his family. He was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, officials said. The helicopter took off from Brick Township High School.
The crane was working in the area just north of mile marker 90 and just south of mile marker 91, according to state police. The Parkway itself was not closed, however traffic on Chambers Bridge Road was stopped shortly as the helicopter arrived.

The crane was presumably working on an ongoing project to expand the Parkway’s shoulders to improve roadway safety.
