An Ocean County grand jury has indicted a local man who authorities say was drunk when he caused an accident on Jordan Road that killed an 80-year-old Brick woman.
Robert P. Cook Jr., 30, of Point Pleasant Borough, was indicted on charges of aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide in the March 9 head-on collision which killed Jane C. Eager.
At the time of the accident, police said Cook was drunk when his 2008 Honda swerved over the center line of the road between Colonial and Meridian drives and hit Eager’s car head-on. Eager was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred at about 3 p.m.
Cook is currently free on bail. He was initially charged with vehicular homicide and drunk driving, which carries a 10 year-long prison term. The indictment includes the aggravated manslaughter charge, which carries a maximum 30-year prison term upon conviction.
