The intersection of Route 70 and Chambers Bridge Road will receive a new crosswalk funded by the state, Brick officials announced this week.
“We have a lot of people on one side who want to get over to the Shop Rite and a lot of people on the other side who want to get to the A&P shopping center,” said Mayor John Ducey.
Ducey said Jamie Fox, the state’s new transportation commissioner, committed to the project when he and Joanne Bergin, the township’s business administrator, met with him recently.

The pedestrian crosswalk will enable people on foot to safely and legally cross from one shopping center to the other – a dangerous proposition currently.
“I can’t even tell you how many times I’m coming to town hall from my house and I see people stuck in the median,” Ducey said.
