Two people who may have occupied a vehicle that was reportedly driving on top of the ice on the Toms River early Sunday morning, prompting a 10 hour-long search for a vehicle that was found submerged in the river, have come forward and are speaking with investigators.
Toms River Police spokesman Ralph Stocco said the department believes all of the truck’s occupants are safe and accounted for, but the incident remains under investigation.
State police said a dead dog – a boxer mix – was found in the truck, which was spotted doing “donuts” on the ice off Money Island in Toms River. The truck was found at 10:20 a.m. Sunday morning about 100 feet off Motor Road in Pine Beach. Divers from the state police recovered the dog Sunday afternoon.
Stocco said the New Jersey State Police marine unit and Pine Beach police have taken over the case.
