Brick police say mechanical issues with a man’s car led him to crash into a utility pole Tuesday morning. Route 70 was shut down in the aftermath.

According to Capt. Ron Dougard, Anthony Cutolo, 39, of Colts Neck, was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta on the state highway at about 10:30 a.m. when he began experiencing mechanical issues. He ultimately lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole in front of the old Foodtown site.

“The crash caused the pole to snap at the base and his vehicle overturned,” said Dougard. “Route 70 was shut down to traffic due to wires lying in the roadway for approximately an hour and a half.”

Cutolo was transported to an area hospital by Brick Police EMS to be treated for minor injuries he sustained in the crash, Dougard said. No summonses were issued, he said. The crash was investigated by Officer Louis Valanzola.
