A bloodhound on the job with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department is being praised for helping to locate an elderly man who wandered away from his home in a local adult community.
Emmitt, the K9, and his handler, Sheriff’s Officer James Kohout, were called to the Leisure Village East community in Lakewood for a missing person case on Thursday, the sheriff’s department said in a statement. Kohout introduced Emmitt to the missing man’s hat as an article scent, and with the assistance of Lakewood police officers, Kohout and Emmitt tracked the elderly male through to the fence line between Leisure Village and the nearby Four Seasons development.
Kohout finally overheard a faint voice which resulted in the location of the missing person, authorities said.
