Brick native Andrew Brodeur won the Spring Lake Five Mile Run on Saturday.
Brodeur, 25, a Brick Memorial High School graduate who now lives in Bethesda, Md., came in first place in the 39th annual run. Brodeur completed the run in 24:42.5, besting the next-fastest runner, Mark Leininger, 24, of Colts Neck, by eight seconds.
Brodeur currently serves as a teacher and track coach at a high school in Silver Spring, Md.
“It feels great,” Brodeur told News12 New Jersey, which reported on the race Saturday. “This event really kicks off the summer running circuit in New Jersey at the Shore.”
The cable news channel reported that over 12,000 runners participated this year.
