Thunderstorms are expected to move through the Shore area Thursday night, bringing the potential for lightning, heavy rain and gusty winds.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m. Thursday for most of New Jersey, including Ocean County. Some of the thunderstorms could produce locally strong, damaging winds and heavy rain that could result in localized flooding. Between a quarter and a half inch of rain is possible.

The storms will clear out after 3 a.m., in time for Friday morning’s commute. Friday’s high is forecast to be 85 under mostly sunny skies.
