A man shot and injured himself while parked outside a local Wawa store on Sunday night, police said.
Toms River police officers were called to the Wawa store at 1600 Route 37 – located just east of the Washington Street intersection – at 10:52 p.m. Sunday, said spokesman Ralph Stocco, in reference to a man threatening himself with a gun.
While police units were on the scene he discharged his gun, striking himself, Stocco said. He was transported to Community Medical Center for treatment and then later transferred to Jersey Shore Medical Center.
There was no word on whether the man was expected to survive. For privacy reasons, the name of the man has not been released.
