A traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a 21-year-old local man who police say was carrying more than 300 wax folds of heroin and thousands of dollars in cash.
The traffic stop occurred Saturday night at 10 p.m. on Martin Luther King Drive in Lakewood, police said, as the driver of a BMW was driving carelessly. As officers were trying to catch up to the vehicle, the driver failed to come to a complete stop at the intersection of Emmanuel Drive and Warren Street, the department said in a statement.
Upon initiating the motor vehicle stop, the BMW quickly pulled over and one of the occupants, 21-year-old Fernando Reyes, of Lakewood, exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away, police said.

Reyes was arrested and charged with possession of heroin and possession with the intent to distribute heroin. Bail was set at $7,500 cash.
The driver of the car, Anthony Moncada, 19, also of Lakewood, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. He was later released after receiving several motor vehicle violations.
Photos of Reyes and Moncada were not available.
