Ocean County’s largest senior softball organization is recruiting players for next spring and summer, organizers said.
This year more than 150 men participated in the Berkeley Senior Softball League, which draws players from across the county, from Jackson to LBI. Starting next April and ending in August, at least eight teams will play on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Games take place in Holiday City’s Whispering Pines Park and in Bayville’s Veterans Park.
The league is beginning its outreach for additional men and women now, because some Ocean County residents may be spending the winter in the south, others will turn 60 years old by spring, and some are moving into the area. The county has one of the nation’s highest concentrations of senior citizens, so the sports organization expects to attract many more players.
“We welcome anyone who wants to enjoy a healthy, fun-filled activity,” league commissioner Steve Issman said.
Interested players should call Issman at 914-588-2714 for more information and to preregister for 2016 teams.
“We really have a ball,” he said.
