A pedestrian was injured after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing Herbertsville Road early Sunday in Brick.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Herbertsville and Hulse Road, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. The pedestrian, identified as John Leddy, 29, of Brick, was attempting to cross the roadway, traveling north to south, when he was struck in the westbound lane just before the double center line by a 2015 GMC Sierra, being driven by Jeffrey Bevacqua, 52, of Brick.
Leddy was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by ambulance with serious internal injuries and multiple broken bones, Della Fave said.
Bevacqua showed no visual signs impairment according officers on scene, and a search of his cell phone on scene revealed that it was not in use during the time of the crash, said Della Fave. The vehicle’s even data recorder is being reviewed by the CSI unit of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, and the investigation is ongoing, Della Fave said.
