The Novins Planetarium at Ocean County College announced numerous late fall and holiday shows this week.
The shows include:
Laser Holidays (Family Show) – This laser concert features classic holiday favorites like “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” by Burl Ives and “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby; modern hits such as “Jingle Bell Rock” by Randy Travis and “The Chipmunk Song” by The Chipmunks; and unique renditions of timeless songs including “Winter Wonderland” by Eurythmics and “Frosty the Snowman” by Cocreau Twins, among many other favorites. This is a fun experience for everyone and gives new meaning to the term “holiday lights” – holiday LASER lights! Let It Snow: A Holiday Music Journey – This delightful animated show features a new variety of festive classics such as “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow”; “Run Rudolph Run”; “Frosty the Snowman”; “Holly Jolly Christmas”; “Jingle Bell Rock”; and a stunning, multi-media finale by the Trans Siberian Orchestra, among many others! The soundtrack is visually enhanced with thematic animation, laser imagery, special effects, and all-dome scenery in the audiovisual setting of the Planetarium. Season of Light – Learn the reasons humans are so fascinated with lighting up our lives during the December holiday season. This show is an exploration of the astronomical meanings behind seasonal traditions, including the “Star over Bethlehem” and recounts the historical, religious, and cultural rituals practiced during the time of Winter Solstice including Celtic, Christian, Hopi, Irish, Jewish, Mexican, Nordic, and Roman. It’s an elegant and sophisticated program about the coldest and darkest of seasons – a time that holds some of the warmest and brightest celebrations of the year. Recommended for ages 7 and over. Wonders of the Holiday Sky – Enjoy an in-depth tour of the Holiday sky over our current sky in New Jersey. Explore the Holiday season’s constellations, bright stars, visible planets, deep sky objects, and celestial highlights. Constellation mythology and recent space events are included. A Live Sky Talk with a question and answer period rounds out this fun and informal presentation. Fri, Nov 27 at 5:30 p.m.
Laser Beatles – The “Fab Fours’” best, spanning six years and 11 albums becomes the background for dazzling laser art and spectacular digital and analog effects. All ages and backgrounds will appreciate this fantasy tribute of music and light to The Beatles and how they helped define a generation. Songs include “I Wanna Hold Your Hand,” “Yesterday,” and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” among many others. Sat, Nov 21 at 7:00 p.m.
Laser Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon – This icon album offers a mixture of psychedelic, rock, and jazz sounds. Its sonic backdrops and atmospheric soundscapes combined with a unique assortment of sound effects yield an emotional resonance. When accompanied by a diverse and unusual display of laser art, the overall feel is a dramatic and haunting atmosphere. Sat, Nov 21 at 8:15 p.m.
Laser Pink Floyd: The Wall – Always a crowd favorite of visitors to the Planetarium, The Wall is considered to be one of the best classic rock albums of all time. It is a timeless classic, and one of Pink Floyd’s best, becoming the group’s second best seller behind Dark Side of the Moon. Sat, Nov 21 at 9:30 p.m.
