Brick Township High School Principal Dennis Filippone was seriously injured in a recent automobile accident but is recovering and expects return to work after the new year, Interim Superintendent Richard Caldes said.
“He’s sore, he’s banged up, and it’s going to take a while for him to come back,” said Caldes, but, “He’s back to himself, laughing, making fun of himself.”
Though Shorebeat was unable to obtain police reports on the accident late Thursday night, Caldes said Filippone was driving home from a Dragons bowling match when a car swerved and struck his vehicle head-on at about 40 m.p.h.
“We’re lucky that things hit the way they did, and the airbag deployed,” said Caldes. “We’re lucky he’s still with us.”
“Anybody who knows Mr. Filippone knows how much he loves his school, his students and his faculty,” said Board of Education President Sharon Cantillo.
Caldes said Filippone will likely be able to return to work in January.
