Brick Township police officers, officials and residents were mourning the death of Officer Kris Demarco after he died Saturday following a battle with pancreatic cancer, department officials said.
Demarco, 38, had been an officer since 2003, having graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy Class No. 81.
During the course of his career, Demarco was assigned primarily to the midnight shift, where he served as a Field Training Officer. He also served the Brick Township Police Department as a background investigator and as an assistant to the department’s Training Unit.

Additionally, the department said in a statement, Demarco was a member of the department’s elite Special Emergency Response Team since Jan. 2007. He was also assigned to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Special Operations Group from 2009 to 2010.
Demarco served the Policeman’s Benevolent Association Local #230 as the Financial Secretary on the PBA’s executive board and he was an active member of numerous charitable committees. Demarco earned the Policeman of the Year Award in 2007. He also earned several other awards and Chief’s Certificates during the course of his decorated career which include:
- Meritorious Service Award
- Grand Cordon Award
- Superstorm Sandy Award
- Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Douglas C. King Award
- Numerous letters of commendation from the citizens that he served.
