The Ocean One, a 75-foot scallop boat, caught fire at about 3:30 a.m. at the commercial fishing docks off Channel Drive in Point Pleasant Beach, according to Jerry Meaney, a local first responder who runs a popular Facebook page. The extent of the damage was not immediately known.

The boat, which has previously needed rescue tows by the Coast Guard, received 21 violations by the federal agency in 2013, including a lack of fire extinguishers on board, a non-working VHF radio and an excess of items blocking escape routes. The boat was built in 1979, according to vessel data sources.
