Brick police are investigating an incident during which a man attempted to lure a 9-year-old girl by asking if she wanted candy.
The incident occurred Tuesday on the 200 block of Greenwood Loop Road, a condominium development in the Herbertsville section, Sgt. Neal Pedersen said.
On scene officers were told that as the girl exited her school bus, a man standing near a dumpster said, “hey little girl, come here, I have candy for you.”

The girl immediately fled the scene and ran home, police said.
As the victim was running home, she heard the man yell, “hey little girl, come back here.”
The man was described as being in his late 40s with thinning, light brown hair that was combed back. The victim also believed that the man had some type of mark or tattoo on one of his hands. He was described as wearing jeans and a dark-colored sweatshirt. His skin color was not included in a press release issued by police.
The area was checked by officers with negative results, Pedersen said.
Parents, the statement said, are reminded to speak with their children about the dangers of talking to strangers, and to immediately contact the police if they observe anything suspicious. Anyone who believes that they may have observed the man involved in this week’s incident is asked to contact the Brick Township Police at 732-262-1100.
