A local man is facing numerous criminal charges related to a break-in and stabbing of another man and the assault of a woman he was with in her Sawmill Road residence, police said Thursday.
According to Sgt. Neal Pedersen, police were called to a residence on Sawmill Road for a reported assault at 12:25 p.m. Thursday afternoon. When the officers arrived, they found a 25-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman who were both bleeding and had several scrapes and abrasions. The male had been stabbed in the chest and hands, Pedersen said.
Officers on scene determined that the two victims were assaulted by an ex-friend of the female victim, said Pedersen.

Nelson Rodriguez, 31, of Ocean Township, reportedly became enraged when he went to the woman’s Sawmill Road home and realized the other man was inside.
“He broke into the residence and began assaulting the victims,” said Pedersen, in a statement.
Rodriguez, police said, continued to assault the male by stabbing him in the chest and hands while the male victim tried to fight him off. The male victim was able to get away from Rodriguez and flee the residence to get help, according to police.
At that point. Rodriguez allegedly grabbed the two victims’ cell phones and fled the area.
Police were initially unable to find Rodriguez, but ultimately located him at his residence at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday by the Ocean Township Police Department where he was arrested without incident. He was then transported to the Brick Township Police Department where he was processed on numerous charges.
Rodriguez faces:
- 2 counts of Aggravated Assault
- Burglary
- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose
- Theft
- Criminal Mischief
Municipal Court Judge Robert M. Lepore placed bail for Rodriguez at $175,000 cash. He was transported to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail.
A photo of Rodriguez was not yet available from the Ocean County Jail.
