A summer law enforcement detail to crack down on traffic offenses on a busy county road that – partially – runs through Brick has netted a surprisingly high number of seatbelt violations, officials said.
The operation on Route 528 – known in Brick as Mantoloking Road and Cedar Bridge Avenue – resulted in 311 traffic stops, translating to 211 tickets and six arrests during the period of June 17 through June 30, when the detail was underway.
“Most disturbing was that seatbelt summonses topped the charts at 73,” said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, which led the operation. “It can’t be stressed enough the importance of wearing seatbelts for the safety of all vehicle occupants.”
On the positive side, said Della Fave, just eight speeding tickets were issued.
