The latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center shows Tropical Storm Hermine, now inland after a Florida landfall, will regenerate off the Atlantic coast as a full-fledged hurricane.
The storm is forecast to become a hurricane once again by 8 a.m. Sunday off the Delmarva peninsula, the forecast track shows, after which it will stall off New Jersey before degenerating back to tropical storm strength. Hermine is expected to regenerate into a category one hurricane, with 75 m.p.h. winds.
“There is a possibility that the system could regain some tropical characteristics in 4-5 days, but this remains uncertain,” a forecast from the National Hurricane Center said.
“Major tidal flooding, beach erosion, and strong winds and heavy rain are still expected,” meteorologist Dan Skeldon said in a social media post.
New Jersey remains in a tropical storm watch.
