Birchwood Park, located in the neighborhood that bears the same name, will be the next township park to be rebuilt and upgraded with modern equipment.

The administration of Mayor John Ducey has made park improvements a priority over the last several years, and has already completed projects at numerous other parks in town. For Birchwood Park, the cost of the project was included in this year’s capital budget, and the township is currently seeking grants from the state Department of Environmental Protection to help defray the cost, said Business Administrator Joanne Bergin.

Ducey said the project will include the construction of two new playgrounds – one for children ages 2-5 and one for ages 6-12 – as well as two basketball courts, a multipurpose field, a gazebo and a walking track. The reconstruction also includes new safety surfaces, irrigation, lighting and security cameras.

The project has been estimated to cost approximately $1.2 million. A rendering of the project is shown in the image included in this article. The park is located off Ashwood Drive, behind Warren H. Wolf Elementary School.
