The Women’s Club of Brick Township is much more than a social group, its members say, as they celebrate the 70th anniversary of service to Brick.
The club, which consists of 47 women, participates in numerous service projects each year, organizes programs for young women and even provides scholarships by way of their fundraising efforts, said Gwendolyn Lewis, the club’s current president. The club was honored for its efforts last week by the Brick Township mayor and council, who issued proclamations recognizing its service to the township.
What the club needs most is new members.

“We are looking for more people,” Lewis said. “We used to be over 100 women and we are down to 47 now.”
The group regularly takes part in service projects, charitable events and raises awareness for important women’s issues. This weekend, the club also is participating in the Prevent Child Abuse NJ Mall Walk at Monmouth Mall, set to take place Saturday.
The club recently started a Facebook page as a way to reach out the community and, hopefully, attract new members.
