A car that was hoisted out of Forge Pond in Brick this week was stolen, police say.

Capt. Vince Pacitti said officers were called to the pond, off Route 70, Wednesday after a report that a car was submerged in the water with nobody inside. The caller, Nick Kolodiy, told police he had just launched his boat in the water across from the submerged vehicle, when he noticed it. Seeing no one around the vehicle, he called the police.

Upon arrival the vehicle in question was almost fully under water with only the tail end sticking out of the water, said Pacitti.

Sgt. Art Rivaldo was able to board Kolodiy’s boat and break the back window of the vehicle to see if anyone was inside.  After determining that the vehicle was unoccupied, dispatch advised that the vehicle had recently been reported stolen in Lakewood.  The vehicle, a 2009 black Honda Civic, was towed and stored for processing.

The car had been taken from residential area in Lakewood, according to police, with a spare key left inside.
