Bidding is closed for the Manasquan Inlet to Barnegat Inlet beach replenishment project and the sealed bids received will be opened Friday, documentation from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers obtained by Shorebeat indicates.
An announcement that bids were being sought to complete the long-awaited project, which will replenish beaches from Point Pleasant Beach to South Seaside Park with at least a 22 foot-high dune and 200-feet of beach berm, was made in September. Bids were originally scheduled to have been opened after an Oct. 26 deadline, but that was extended to Nov. 15. The Nov. 15 deadline stood, however the opening of bids was moved to Nov. 18.
Bidders – which will consist of dredging companies – were instructed to provide costs to complete the project in southern Mantoloking, Brick, all portions of Toms River (including Ortley Beach), Seaside Heights and Seaside Park. Because of ongoing legal issues regarding challenges to easements and eminent domain claims, Point Pleasant Beach, Bay Head, the northern portion of Mantoloking and the South Seaside Park section of Berkeley Township are included as bid options that may be added to the project at a later date.
