After two years, Brick Township Councilman Paul Mummolo is handing the gavel over to a colleague.
The council on Tuesday unanimously voted Councilman Art Halloran as its new leader. Halloran, who is in his second year of service on the governing body, will preside over meetings and be responsible for forming the various council committees that review policies before being brought to the full body for a vote.
His first order of business: “Move you car out of my parking space,” he said to Mummolo with a laugh.

“I’d like to thank my colleagues on the council for supporting me,” he said, on a more serious note. “I am deeply honored to serve as council president, and look forward to a productive year as we work to make Brick Township the family-friendly community we know it is.”

After Halloran was sworn in to his new office, the council unanimously chose Councilwoman Andrea Zapcic to serve as council vice-president. Her role will be to fill in for Halloran in the case he is not available to run a meeting.
