As high tide began to approach Monday, winds and waves from a nor’easter battering the shore area markedly picked up.

At Manasquan Inlet, In Drive in Point Pleasant Beach was covered in foam, as occasional waves from the waterway crested the sea wall and spilled onto the pavement. More waves battered the inlet rocks as U.S. Coast Guard officials were posted on the boardwalk keeping watch on the storm.

The temperature at the beach was a blustery 41 degrees, with sand and rain pelting the dozen onlookers who struggled to view the powerful display of Mother Nature.
