Brick police said an 6:13 a.m. accident at the busy intersection of routes 70 and 88 Saturday resulted in serious injuries to two motorists.
According to Ptl. Scott Dierking, Joseph Dilauri, 71, of Toms River, was driving a 2016 Nissan Frontier pickup truck and did not stop when the traffic light governing his lane of travel cycled red. He collided with a 2017 Lexus ES350 being driven by Luke Albrink, 38, of Point Pleasant Borough.
Police say both vehicles were approaching the intersection – Dilauri was traveling east on Route 70 and Albrink was traveling west on Route 88 – when the traffic light began to change. Albrink made a left turn as Dilauri proceeded through the intersection, hitting the Lexus, which stopped in the middle of the intersection. Meanwhile, the Nissan rolled over several times and went airborne, ultimately landing in the westbound lanes of Route 70, according to Dierking.
