The eastbound vehicle, Della Fave said, struck the bicyclist as she attempted to cross Route 88, traveling diagonally in a north to southbound direction. The bicyclist was struck by the front passenger portion of the vehicle, which caused her to roll onto the windshield and hood of the vehicle.
They vehicle’s driver “callously continued driving after the impact,” Della Fave said, carrying the victim on the vehicle hood for a distance before she was thrown free of the vehicle. The back sedan then continues eastbound on Route 88 fleeing the scene.
The bicyclist was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center where she is currently listed in critical condition.
The suspect vehicle possibly sustained damage to the front end and windshield. Anyone with information is being asked to call the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027 Ext. 3257 or the Point Pleasant Police Department at 732-892-0060.
