A weekend accident on Herbertsville Road in Brick sent multiple victims to area hospitals.

The accident occurred just west of the intersection of Herbertsville and Thiele roads, between Thiele and Knollwood Terrace Saturday at 2:08 p.m., police said.

According to a report from Brick police, the driver of a red, 2013 Chrysler 200 was traveling south (east) on Herbertsville Road between Sally Ike Road and Thiele Road. At the same time, a white, 2015 Ford Explorer was traveling north (west) on Herbertsville Road and had just passed through the intersection at Thiele. As the Ford continued forward, the driver of the Chrysler attempted to a left turn into the driveway of 561 Herbertsville Road and, while doing so, “turned directly in front of [the Ford], who had the right of way,” police said.

The front seat passenger of the Chrysler sustained a head injury and was transported by Brick Police EMS along with MONOC paramedics to Jersey Shore University Medical Center’s trauma center for an evaluation and treatment. The driver was also transported to Jersey Shore for minor injuries to her chest, foot and knee, according to police.

The driver of the Ford complained of pain to his chest while a passenger complained of pain to her side, chest and back. Both were transported to Ocean Medical Center by Brick Police EMS and Lakewood Police EMS.

Police said an initial on-scene investigation revealed that the Chrysler driver caused the crash by “failing to yield the right of way due to inattentive driving.”

Ptl. Keith Donnelly and Ptl. Jay Lampiasi of the Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit responded to investigate the crash. Detective Edward Waldhelm of the Brick Township Police Department’s ID unit responded to document the scene.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Traffic Safety Unit at 732-262-1140.
